The ‘Cross-Language Dynamics: Reshaping Community’ consortium is led by Professor Stephen Hutchings and is made up of three interconnected research strands led by three collaborating institutions, led by the University of Manchester. The research strands are:
- Multilingual communities: University of Manchester, led by Professor Yaron Matras
- Transnational communities: Durham University, co-led by Dr Andy Byford and Professor Anoush Ehteshami
- Translingual communities: led by the University of London’s School of Advanced Study (SAS), led by Professor Catherine Davies
It includes collaboration with several universities, in the UK and abroad, as well as a number of non-academic organisations, from sixth-form colleges and local councils to arts institutions, cultural diplomacy networks and foreign-policy think tanks.
Case studies concentrate principally on a number of community languages (primarily Russian, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese and German).
The project involved collaborations with nine satellite institutions, a further ten project partners, and other collaborating organisations, listed below.
