Research Projects

The Institute of Modern Languages Research-led strand features four main sub-projects, drawing on expertise from researchers from the Institute of Modern Languages Research, the University of Manchester and Durham University. The sub-project researchers will work in collaboration with a range of international and UK-based academic partners, as well as project partners and local organisations. Case studies will investigate:

• Translingual Minorities: Europe, minority identities, nationhood and cultural memory

• Translingual Modernities: Migration and global consumerism; translating modernity: Europe and China

• Translingual Networks: Virtual activism and communities of affect across linguacultures; Digital humanities and translingual communities

• Translingual Music: Contemporary opera, music theatre and film
